President

Objectives

The President is responsible for promoting the prosperity and wellfare of the organization. Elected annually by the Board, the President performs the duties described in the Bylaws, section 9.1.

The President is an officer of the corporation.

Typical tasks and tips

Preside over all meetings of the Board and general members (see Bylaws, section 9.1.).
Appoint committees (see Bylaws, section 9.1.) and 10.3.).
Fill vacancies that occur in committees (see Bylaws, section 10.5.).
Call special meetings of members (see Bylaws, section 4.3.) or the Board (see Bylaws, section 6.5.).
Attend committee meetings as desired (see Bylaws, section 5.3.). Note that all committee heads are required to notify the President of such meetings (see Bylaws, section 10.3.).
Maintain close communication with the Vice President and Treasurer so that either is able to take over your duties as required.
Select members to fill the following positions:
- Answering machine attendant
- Building Operations and Maintenance chair
- Box office chair
- Communications chair
- Fund Raising Event chair
- Nominating committee (see Bylaws, section 10.2.)
  - TIP: The Nominating committee must have sufficient time to complete its work, and have the results announced to the membership, before the May annual meeting.
- Publicity Committee chair
- Scholarship committee chair
- Social Director
- Telephone Chain chair
Give the curtain speech prior to each performance.
- TIP: The BOM may have safety-related input (lift your seat). The House Manager may have input (refreshments available). The Production Manager may have input (program errata).
- TIP: Ask the Director to cover for you if neither you, the Vice President, nor the Treasurer will be available.
Be aware of where volunteers are needed in the organization, so that you can direct members who want to volunteer.
